Yale Cancer Center

Yale Cancer Center was founded in 1974 and is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) located in southern New England. This CCC designation is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) sanction awarded to only 40 such facilities nationwide, and is based on federally established standards and guidelines for patient care and cancer research initiatives.

The Yale Cancer Center brings together the resources of the Yale University School of Medicine (YSM), Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH), and Yale University. Yale Cancer Center's mission includes:

Patient Care, providing new treatment options and innovative therapies at both YNHH and outpatient areas in the Yale Physicians Building, as well as throughout the YSM campus.
Research, conducted at Yale University's School of Medicine, Medical Oncology division, and through the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program.
Cancer Survivorship, provided through the Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic, the Survivorship Program is the first dedicated, multidisciplinary resource for adult cancer survivors, offering patients and families information on prevention, wellness, support services, and the latest health research related to cancer survivorship.
Community Outreach, which offers patients and the community programs focusing on specific types of cancer, as well as a series of scheduled lectures, a weekly radio show, and a Q&A panel on cancer updates, clinical trials and other community resources.

Patients at Yale Cancer Center benefit from the collaborative efforts of nationally and internationally renowned scientists and physicians from the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital. This paradigm of excellence enables the Yale Cancer Center to deliver the best cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment and recovery options.

In addition, the Yale Cancer Center complex offers fellowships in cancer-related disciplines, from gynecologic oncology through medical oncology, and including pediatric oncology and therapeutic radiology.

Offering both inpatient and outpatient facilities at the Yale Physicians Building and the Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Yale Cancer Center has developed multidisciplinary clinical programs which allow and specialists to focus their expertise on specific types of cancers, allowing them to deliver superior care via a patient-focused system headed by a patient care coordinator. This patient-centric focus features:

Rapid access to appointments and relevant tests
Personalized care led by a physician in collaboration with a team of specialists
Personal communication and assistance from a patient coordinator
Compassion and support for the psychological aspects of cancer
Rapid communication with and involvement of outside primary care and referring physicians
