State of Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs Clinics

If you are a Veteran residing in Michigan, were exposed to asbestos during your time in the military, and are eligible to receive care through the VA System, you may wish to discuss a medical monitoring program with your doctor. Since all asbestos-related diseases including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and pleural disease have a long latency period (in some cases over 50 years after exposure), it is possible for the effects of the inhaled fibers to appear at any time. It is important to remember, however, that exposure alone is not a guarantee you will ever develop any associated illness.

Most VA Outpatient Clinics and Community Based Outpatient Clinics require scheduled appointments; some may take walk-ins. Please contact your chosen facility in advance, so you will be aware of their specific procedures. Two types of clinics are listed here. Outpatient Clinics (desginated with an asterisk) are like non VA outpatient clinics in that they are set up to serve patients needing outpatient care in a variety of ways. Community Based Outpatient Clinics tend to be smaller and co-located with doctors offices. They typically provide a more limited menu of services, and the specific services vary from clinic to clinic.
