University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center

The University of Michigan (U-M) Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMCCC) - a part of the U-M Health System - is one of 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, and provides diagnostic, treatment and support services in a collaborative environment dedicated to excellence in patient care.

A CCC designation is award to only those institutions offering advanced cancer research and treatment services. These cancer services are a direct result of the National Cancer Act of 1971, directed at addressing the need for comprehensive cancer services and up-to-date research initiatives. These National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated facilities undergo comprehensive reviews to ensure continued compliance with federally established standards for cancer patient care and research.

As part of a larger campus at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the Cancer Center collaborates with the U-M Medical School, faculty and research laboratories, and the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, which include: University Hospital; C.S. Mott Children's Hospital; Women's Hospital; 120 outpatient clinics; approximately 40 health centers; and the U-M School of Nursing and the Michigan Visiting Nurses Association

Drawing on the strengths of the University of Michigan faculty, the Cancer Center has assembled a team of leading specialists whose mission is to unravel the threat of cancer and to provide care and comfort to those it afflicts. Comprised of nine stories, the new building devotes four floors to outpatient cancer care for adults and children and five floors to cancer research. It contains:

In 2006, the UMCCC received $82.5 million in research funding, placing it #7 in the rankings of NCI research facilities. UMCCC consistently receives the NCI's "outstanding" designation, and recently established a premier Phase I Clinical Trials and Translational Research Program. In addition, the new $523-million Children's Hospital will contain a wing which adds 64 bone marrow transplantation rooms for adult and pediatric patients, which will make it one of the largest bone marrow transplantation programs in the country.

The Cancer Center has several multi-disciplinary clinics:
