Asbestos Contamination a Serious Problem for Aberdeen Schools
Aberdeen - Asbestos contamination is plaguing northeast Scotland as 75 percent of schools in Aberdeenshire and nearly half the schools in Aberdeen contain asbestos.
Though asbestos is closely monitored by various civil councils, the new figures have renewed calls to increase funding to renovate area school buildings.
37 of Aberdeen's 79 school facilities contain asbestos while 115 of Aberdeenshire's 171 educational buildings have been found to contain asbestos.
Currently both districts are conducting ongoing removal and abatement of asbestos within schools found to have high exposure risks. The latest report designated 26 of Aberdeen's buildings for remediation.
