Cancer Treatment at the University of Colorado Cancer Center

The University of Colorado Cancer Center (UCCC) is a “matrix” cancer center within the University of Colorado (Denver campus) and Health Sciences Center. Located in Aurora, Colorado, this biomedical campus provides treatment at the Anschutz Cancer Pavilion and biomedical research services across the street at Research Towers.

Hosting members from the University of Colorado at Boulder campus, the AMC Cancer Research Center, the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, and the Colorado State University campuses, the UCCC is the Rocky Mountain region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC). This CCC designation is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) seal of approval awarded to only 40 such facilities nationwide, and is based on federally established standards and guidelines for patient care and cancer research initiatives.

With cancer research funded by the federal government through its Cancer Center Support Grant, this consortium of three state universities and six institutions (the Anschutz Pavilions, UCCC Denver, the Health Sciences Center’s schools, Children’s Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital) features more than 400 members working to ease the cancer burden through cancer-specific care, research, education, prevention and control.

Under the umbrella of the AMC Cancer Prevention and Control Program, a freestanding nonprofit organization, UCCC provides:

  • Cancer Chemoprevention
  • Cancer Disparities
  • Cancer Genetics
  • Cancer Survivorship
  • Early Cancer Detection
  • Other Cancer-related Programs (Obesity Control, Skin Cancer Prevention, Training in Cancer Preventive Medicine).

Serving an area with a population of approximately eight million people, UCCC and the AMC’s goals are to reduce the cancer burden by:

1. Conducting coordinated and interdisciplinary basic, clinical, translation, prevention and control, population, and educational research.
2. Providing citizens of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region with state-of-the-art programs in cancer research, therapy, early detection, prevention and control.
3. Providing cancer education at all levels from students to the public sector.
