Husband died from mesothelioma while caring for his sick wife

Crawley, West Sussex, UK - A man who was caring for his sick wife and had to place her into a nursing home due to his worsening mesothelioma illness died this week.

Ron Rose, 73, was diagnosed with the incurable and terminal mesothelioma in 2007 after going to the doctor to get his back pains checked out. As he was nearing his life's end, he reluctantly decided that it was best to put his beloved wife, Doreen, in a home where she could get the proper care she needed.

The coroner's court that examined him confirmed Mr. Rose, who worked as a plumber for 25 years, died of mesothelioma. Coroner Penelope Schofield said she was confident with her recorded verdict of him dying from an industrial disease caused by asbestos exposure.

Mr. Rose worked as a plumber for G.W. Hitchcock from 1948 and 1971. The coroner's court received information that he may have been exposed to asbestos during a time when he and other workers took on some general construction responsibilities for the company.

A coroner office said the incident occurred while he and the group of workers were sawing sheets of possibly tainted materials at a petroleum station. They were not given protective equipment for the job although the air was thick with dust that may have contained the deadly fibers.

Mr. Rose worked as a delivery driver for an electrical company before he retired in 1999 to take care of Doreen, who suffers from dementia.
