Roofer wins mesothelioma compensation.
A mesothelioma sufferer who has won compensation of £160,000 will be spending his final days with family members instead of being in a hospital.
Jim Kingshott, 59, said his dying wish was to be surrounded by his loved ones as he died, and many of his close friends and relatives have gathered at his home in Shoreham to fulfill that wish.
A dying roofer who was awarded £160,000 after exposure to asbestos has gone home to spend his final days with his family.
Alan Kingshott, 55, said his brother preferred to pass away at home instead of at the hospital. He was brought home from Worthing Hospital on Tuesday.
Mr. Kingshott was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer in December 2006 and was told by doctors that he wouldn't survive for more than a few months. He came into contact with the deadly substance during his work as a roofer for Doric Co. Ltd.
He outlasted the initial prediction by undergoing extensive treatments. His brother described him as a "very resilient bloke."
Mr. Kingshott said the disease has weakened him to the point that he can no longer attend to basic household tasks, such as gardening and washing cars, and even getting dressed is extremely tiring.
He said he is glad that the money can be used to take care of his children.
