Howard University Students Concerned About Asbestos
In the lobby of the architecture building, next to an open bag filled with asbestos containing tiles, was a message written in green marker. “I feel so safe with all these broken asbestos … tiles,” it said.
Architecture students at Howard University have faced a difficult semester trying to balance coursework with concerns over building renovation projects including asbestos removal. Students are especially worried that the university is not taking the necessary steps to prevent them from asbestos exposure.
The tiles, reportedly taken from the basement of the building, are just another symptom of the problem according to students. They protested during the fall semester in hopes of bringing attention to these kinds of problems which are the result of semester-long construction projects.
