Fisher House

What Is a Fisher House™ ?

A Fisher House™ is "a home away from home" for the families of veterans who are receiving medical care at a major military or VA medical center. Patients who are receiving treatment on an outpatient basis are also welcome as long as they are medically stable and able to care for themselves, or are accompanied by a caregiver who is able to provide care. Fisher House™ guests must be traveling more than 50 miles from their homes to the VA in order to qualify for accommodations.

What Type of Accommodations are Available?

Fisher Houses™ are normally 5,000 to 16,000 square foot homes, each home providing 8 to 21 suites. Additional amenities include a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a living room and a spacious dining room. The homes are professionally furnished and decorated in a style consistent with the region of the country in which they are located. Homes are donated by the Fisher family and The Fisher House™ Foundation.

What Is The Fisher House Foundation?

The Fisher House Foundation, Inc., is a not-for profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. The Foundation builds new homes and assists in the coordination of private and public support for the homes. The homes are given to the U.S. Government as gifts, and are operated and maintained by Military Service Secretaries and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

What Is the Cost for Accommodations?

There is no fee to stay at a Fisher House™.
