Former Baie Verte Asbestos Miners Asked to Join Registry
Former employees of the Baie Verte asbestos mine, their family members and members of the community who were around when the mine was active are encouraged to join a registry that will track their health and gather data on asbestos exposure.
The registry is being put together by the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission and United Steelworkers Union with the help of the Baie Verte Peninsula Miners' Action Committee.
The groups have organized a meeting scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5th at the Capital Hotel in St. Johns. The meeting starts at 7pm and is open to:
- Regular employees
- Summer students
- Contract workers
- Office staff
- Next of kin of deceased employees
