HSE Plans October Launch for Asbestos Awareness Campaign
The UK Health and Safety Executive has announced plans to conduct an asbestos awareness campaign that highlights the dangers of occupational exposure.
"Asbestos - The Hidden Killer" will begin running in radio and print ads beginning on October 13. The campaign will target workers who may come in contact with the material by emphasizing disease rates within various occupations.
The HSE believes that many tradesmen underestimate the dangers of asbestos exposure which was confirmed by a February study by the British Lung Foundation. The study encourages workers who are at risk of exposure to take precautions and learn more about how inhaling asbestos fibers can affect their health.
HSE data suggests that asbestos exposure results in more than 4,000 deaths per year.
